The Wall Street Journal reports on the latest jobs numbers. While unemployment dropped from 5% to 4.7% the decline was almost entirely due to the fact that 458,000 left the workforce entirely, dropping the labor participation rate. A measly 38,000 jobs were added to the economy, a huge miss from expectations. This makes a rate hike by the Federal Reserve unlikely. This factor is credited for the 2.2% bounce gold saw after the announcement.
