South Carolina
Another of the thirteen original colonies, South Carolina, led the way in withdrawing from the Union. It used to be well known for its rich gold mines, but now it is an agriculture state. Some of the crops produced include dairy, tobacco, and textiles. The Battle of Fort Sumter, which was the first of the Civil War, took place in Charleston, South Carolina.
