Vermont is a New England state and also happens to have one of the lowest populations in the country. It also happens to be one of the smallest states in the country as well. Vermont is the only New England state that is not positioned on the Atlantic coast. Vermont officially became a state in the year 1791. It was the first state that was not one of the first 13 colonies. While it may be a small state with a small population, it produces a lot of maple syrup.
